What Deserves Your Attention?

What Deserves Your Attention?

Good Morning All – I hope you had an amazing weekend! As always, I like to start the week off right with some words of motivation or inspiration:

Most of us pay close attention to how we spend our time and money, but we rarely think about how we spend our attention.

Throughout the day, dozens of things compete for it: messages, notifications, news, unfinished work, other people’s opinions and conversations -- things we keep replaying long after they have ended.

A careless comment can occupy our thoughts for hours. A problem we cannot solve today follows us through dinner. We pick up our phone to check one thing and, twenty minutes later, cannot even remember why we reached for it in the first place.

We can be sitting across from someone we care about while thinking about work. We can be working on something important while repeatedly checking something that is not. We can spend more energy imagining what might go wrong than dealing with what is actually happening.

This does not mean ignoring serious concerns or pretending that difficult situations do not matter. It means recognizing that not everything deserves unlimited access to our minds.

A useful question for the week ahead is:

Does this deserve as much of my attention as I am giving it?

If the answer is yes, let's give it our full attention and decide what action we can take. If the answer is no, we need to recognize this and return our focus to something that deserves it.

That might mean finishing one task before opening another, putting the phone away during a conversation or deciding that we have thought about a problem long enough for today. It may mean directing more attention toward health, family or something we have been saying matters while continually giving our energy elsewhere

This week, we do not need to control everything competing for our attention - but we can become more deliberate about what we allow to grab it.

Have a great week ahead,

Sincerely,

Your Realtor Denis Hrstic
