Give Yourself Permission

Give Yourself Permission

Good Morning All – I hope you had an amazing weekend! As always, I like to start the week off right with some words of motivation or inspiration:

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” — Anne Lamott

When a phone freezes, a computer slows down or the internet stops working, one of the first things we try is turning it off, waiting a moment and starting it again. Yet how often do we try this when we feel overloaded?

Sometimes the problem is not that we are unmotivated, incapable or losing our edge. Sometimes we have simply been mentally connected for too long.

Most of us now carry our work, family, appointments and other people’s expectations with us everywhere we go. Even when we are technically finished working, our minds often remain occupied by unanswered messages, unfinished tasks and everything that needs our constant attention.

The result is that we rarely give ourselves enough quiet to think clearly. When we are tired or overstimulated, small problems can feel much larger than they are. We become impatient, overthink simple decisions and confuse exhaustion with a lack of ability.

Unplugging does not mean taking a full week off or disappearing from every responsibility. It could mean putting the phone away during dinner, going for a walk without listening to anything, taking an evening away from email or simply sitting quietly for a few minutes before responding to something that has frustrated us.

The point is not to avoid our responsibilities. It is to return to them with a clearer mind.

A brief pause can also help when we are facing a major decision. Whether we are considering a career change, working through a personal issue or deciding whether it is time to move, stepping away from the noise can help us separate what we genuinely want from what we feel pressured to do.

This week, if you feel as though you are working harder but accomplishing less, do not immediately assume you need more discipline. You may simply need to unplug for a few minutes and allow yourself a reset.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Your Realtor Denis Hrstic
